Mystic Swaz: SFs, 26-27 April

Some bold predictions from Swaz this week, despite some indecision on how the first legs might pan out. He’s got a few words for his old sparring partner too…

Manchester City v Real Madrid

Will "Pep roulette" make an appearance on Tuesday night?

It’s a big one this, isn’t it? This is a tricky one, because everything tells me that City are the better team and should beat them – but is Pep roulette going to come out? Is Real Madrid’s pedigree going to do for City? I’ve been teetering on the edge of the result going either way. City battered Watford on Saturday so they were able to rest quite a few players. And Real Madrid will have had a week off because they didn’t play at the weekend – and I always find that teams that have had time off perform worse. And that’s settled it for me. Though I’m not going to be outrageous because the Champions Journal Community will get annoyed with me; they’re in my head, rent free.

Prediction: 2-0

Liverpool v Villarreal

Can Klopp's men gain an advantage at home?

Liverpool should absolutely trounce them – but Bayern and Juventus should have as well. Though Villarreal have got Tottenham players, who are used to just winning everything… Liverpool surely can’t lose because they’re so good, but Villarreal are that team. Against Bayern they had one shot on target and it was the one that went in. I’m not going to knock them because they’ve been good, but has their luck run out now? And Liverpool just don’t seem to lose at Anfield – plus, they score. They score a lot.

Prediction: 3-0

12-13 April: round-up

Bayern München v Villarreal
Result: 1-1
Swaz: 4-1

Real Madrid v Chelsea
Result: 2-3
Swaz: 2-2

Atlético Madrid v Manchester City
Result: 0-0
Swaz: 0-3

Liverpool v Benfica
Result: 3-3
Swaz: 2-0

We mention to Swaz that because a certain Portuguese side have now gone out, he can no longer spar with Champions Journalist Fabio Barreiros, his Benfica mate. “You say ‘mate’, I say ‘nemesis’. He was giving it all the chat, so I just had to put him in his place and say, ‘Listen here, you’re wrong. You think you’re great but you’re not.’ Let’s leave it at that. Me and Fabio? It’s done, dusted – till next season, my friend. Though I might have to email him in the meantime and just predict Benfica games in the Primeira Liga…”
