The Predictor: R16, 8-9 March

As the second legs kick-off, Swaz takes a deep breath and gazes into his crystal football

WORDS Lucas Wills

Liverpool v Inter Milan (first leg: 2-0)

Inter looked quite dangerous in the first leg, even though they didn’t have a shot on target. And they did win 5-0 at the weekend – but it was against Salernitana. That’s like Liverpool playing Sutton. Despite my prediction, it wouldn’t surprise me if Inter nick a goal; I’ll just mention that to cover my back.

Prediction: 2-0

Bayern München v Salzburg (first leg: 1-1)

Look, Bayern are at home. And the major factor in the Salzburg victory – it wasn’t actually a victory, but it was in my mind – was their home support. So Bayern are going to absolutely pepper them this time, I reckon. Though Salzburg look quite good on the counter, so that’s why I think they might get a goal. I was going to go 3-2 but then I thought,“No, come on mate.”

Prediction: 3-1

Manchester City v Sporting CP (first leg: 5-0)

That first leg was an absolute apple turnover, wasn’t it? Sporting didn’t have a shot on target all game. I was going to go for fewer goals in my prediction for this one because City had a hard game at the weekend – well, hard first half – and that might mean they field a weakened line-up. But then I remembered that their second team is unbelievable.

Prediction: 4-0

Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain (first leg: 0-1)

I watched the first leg and couldn’t workout how Paris hadn’t absolutely battered them. It was an outrageous game; PSG had 21 shots, Real had three. So the thing is, yes, Real are at home this time but Paris looked so much stronger. So I’ve gone for them… but it wouldn’t surprise me if Real Madrid win.

Prediction: 1-2

22-23 February: round-up

Chelsea v LOSC
Result: 2-0
Swaz: 2-0

Villarreal v Juventus
Result: 1-1
Swaz: 1-2

Atletico Madrid v Manchester United
Result: 1-1
Swaz: 2-2

Benfica v Ajax
Result: 2-2
Swaz: 1-3

That Chelsea score was always going to happen, wasn’t it? I’m glad I got one right though. I wasn’t far off with the Atleti game either. Do I get a pay rise? (Editor’s note: No)
