New shirts, retro boots and the Rolling Stones – it’s quite the setlist for our latest rundown of Champions League content that’s caught our eye

Issue 12

Boots

Zizou shoe, take two

Adidas predator mania

We don’t need to ask whether you recognise these boots – we know you do. Because yes, adidas has rereleased the Predator Mania and they’re all red, black and white colourway, actual laces and an actual tongue. They were most famously worn by Zinédine Zidane, specifically when he scored that utterly ridiculous volleyed winner against Bayern Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League final. In honour of that iconic moment, this release was limited to 2,002 pairs, for obvious reasons. Which is great for number symmetry but less good for all those who have subsequently missed out on getting a pair.

Shirt

Perfect fit

New kits

We’re very excited to see not one but two teams featuring green-and-white hooped home shirts in this season’s Champions League, as Celtic return alongside Sporting. In particular, we’re loving the subtle pattern within the green of the Celtic bands. Meanwhile, hats off to Bayern München’s stellar new away shirt. It’s got something of the Real Madrids about it, but perhaps that’s the point: the white shirt with gold trim is inarguably a look fit for champions.

Music

Paint it red and black

Rolling Stones

In May, AC Milan supporters filled the San Siro in joyous voice as their heroes marched towards the scudetto. A month later the Rolling Stones played at the stadium and hey presto: a genial collaboration was born. The Serie A champions and legendary English rockers’ capsule – which features T-shirts, hoodies and bags – is called Sympathy for the Devil, referencing both the team’s nickname and the classic 1968 track. Which just goes to show that if you are a Stones fan and a Rossonero, you can get some satisfaction…

TRANSFER NEWS
Summer sale

Raheem Sterling

Manchester City to Chelsea (€56m)

If you can’t beat them, join them. Sterling opted for a darker shade of blue in the window, joining forces with the team he lost to in the 2021 final.

Karim Adeyemi

RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund (€38m)

How do you live without Erling Haaland? Well, if you’re Dortmund, you sign another rising star from the same club you bought the last one from. Simple.

Nordi Mukiele

RB Leipzig to Paris Saint-Germain (€12m)

Small transfer fee (his contract only had a year to run) for someone who could be a major player. The versatile defender returns to his home town.

Robert Lewandowski

Bayern München to Barcelona (€50m)

The Camp Nou welcomes the player who’s joint third on the Champions League all-time top scorers list with a certain Frenchman at the Bernabéu. This should be fun to watch.

Axel Witsel

Borussia Dortmund to Atlético Madrid (Free)

An intriguing one. The veteran midfielder heads to the Metropolitano to add some experience and guile to Diego Simeone’s canny outfit.
