Benfica v Liverpool

Can Benfica upset the odds in the last eight?

I think there are going to be some unhappy Benfica fans in the Champions Journal Community. Let’s make note of this: Lucas says, “If you’re a Benfica fan, deal with it: you’re an underdog, you’re going to lose. Face the facts.” Whereas Liverpool, they’re not looking very good at the moment, but they are winning. They do what they do.

Prediction: 0-2

Manchester City v Atlético Madrid

Pep Guardiola welcomes former La Liga rival Diego Simeone to the Etihad.

Big game. I’m going to eat my words here, but I feel like you don’t get many high-scoring games with Atlético Madrid. City are generally quite assured defensively; Atleti just sit in and make it awkward – but I can’t see them scoring. This will be an absolute goal-fest now won’t it, 8-3…

Prediction: 1-0

Chelsea v Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane and Thomas Tuchel meet once again.

This is a funny one, because neither team is doing brilliantly. Chelsea lost 4-1 Brentford at the weekend, though they didn’t have their full-strength team out. And Real got absolutely battered by Barça recently. But Chelsea are a different beast to PSG and they won’t allow Real the same space and time. Though Karim Benzema, any chance and he’ll score…

Prediction: 1-1

Villarreal v Bayern München

Robert Lewandowski is the competition's top scorer with 12 goals.

I love Villarreal because I’m a Tottenham fan, and they’re basically a Secondary Spurs with Étienne Capoue, Giovani Lo Celso, Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth… So it brings a little bit of joy to me when they win. However, while I think they’ll score, I can’t imagine they’ll beat Bayern.

Prediction: 1-3

15-16 March: round-up

Ajax v Benfica
Result: 0-1
Swaz: 3-1

Manchester United v Atlético Madrid
Result: 0-1
Swaz: 2-2

Juventus v Villarreal
Result: 0-3
Swaz: 2-0

LOSC v Chelsea
Result: 1-2
Swaz: 1-3

Apart from the Chelsea result, everything else was a car crash. Couldn’t have been further away; the teams I predicted to win didn’t even score. So, yeah, it was a stinky one.
