Our pick of the songs from pre-final shows in recent seasons, including one that has since become a terrace anthem

Issue 12

1. Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys

When the New York singer-songwriter performed in the 2016 pre-game show at the San Siro, she switched in ‘Milano’ for the chorus. Nice touch.

2. Let's Get it Started by Black Eyed Peas

An apt song choice for a pre-game performance. Alas, the Peas were without Fergie (the singer, not the manager) for their 2017 performance in Cardiff.

3. One Kiss by Dua Lipa

The Brit’s summer anthem was so popular with the Liverpool fans at the 2018 final that it’s since been co-opted by the Kop – even though they lost to Real.

4. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

What’s already a banger of a tune was made all the more so in Madrid in 2019, thanks to the presence of hundreds of teenagers in UEFA tracksuits adding percussive power with massive drums.

5. Come & Go by Marshmello

The DJ took up neither of the options in this song title: he didn’t actually make it to the 2021 Porto final, but he did wow us with a virtual performance.
